An action-filled cinematic made in Maya!
It tackles the big questions in life, like death and morality, and who is cooler, robots or samurai?
I planned this project with the personality of the two characters in mind from the very start. Wanted it to bleed through the whole thing.

Started by trying out different camera angles and perspectives. It’s a short cinematic with no dialogue, so everything needs to be said without words. Samuguy is our main character and a threat to the robot.
This one was ultimately too calm and sold the feeling of danger from Samuguy less.
One idea that I stuck adamantly to was the wall jump. I knew it would be fun to animate and be the perfect characterization for Samuguy.
Spent a long while in the timing stage of the processes. Holding the characters on A-pose and getting the beats just right.

Shooting my own or finding references is a vital part of the processes. I know the basic movements I want and the acting of the characters.
I start with the basic weight management and work my way towards the details and acting part of the shoot.
Some refs I follow religiously and others are just there to get the basic locomotion and weight right.

Tried different colour themes. A pleasant day one that matched with the rest of the reel and a night one that was more dramatic. The one I went with was more abstract and playful with colour.
Although the lighting is simple it changes the colours quite some. I thought the teal and red makes an impactful contrast
